Eastern Screech Owls in north Alabama.
These little Eastern Screech Owls seem to be very curious of human activity at night. The tough part is actually seeing them. Once you see one, it will typically remain very still and even look in all other directions when you are near it. In north Alabama, where I live, and where I saw these owls, there are 3 distinct phases of these owls, the orange, gray, and brown phase. I still have not found a brown phase but I will keep looking. Some of these photos were taken with a Canon 40d with Canon 100-400 zoom with Canon speedlight 430ex ii with a light beamer. Others were taken using the 400 prime lens (these pics look better to me). It is interesting to compare these owl to the Western and Whiskered Screech Owls in my other galleries.Read More
