Cerulean Warbler at the Walls of Jericho in North Alabama
I photographed this bird species at the Walls of Jericho in north Alabama / south Tennessee. I spent at least 3 hours chasing Cerulean Warblers on my first trip with a Canon 40d and 500mm f4 lens. On my second trip with a Canon 550d (t2i) with the 400mm 5.6 lens I found a Cerulean and got some more pictures. I have now went down to get good photographs with a Canon 6d with the 500 f4 IS lens with a Canon 1.4x extender. These pictures with the 6d (a full frame camera) I expect will be the best. You can click on the blue box that appears on the picture when you scroll over it to see which camera was used as well as other information about the camera settings, date etc.
Ceruleans for me are very difficult to photograph as they rarely come down from the canopies. Getting a good photograph requires patience and good luck. This species is definitely heard much more than seen. I hope you enjoy these photos of this uncommon bird! Its numbers have been decreasing rapidly due to the destruction of its habitat in both South America where it migrates to for the winter, and its habitat in North America where it migrates north for the summer to breed.
