Female Great Saphirewing (Pterophanes cyanopterus) in the Yanachocha region of Ecuador.
Rufous Antpitta (Grallaria rufula) in the wonderful, Yanacocha region of Ecuador on 7/1/18. Antpittas are one of the most timid creatures I've ever encountered. I only get to see them when a "bird whisperer" whistles or otherwise calls them out of the woodwork so that they may be seen, hopefully with a clear view. This guy was hiding in the shade (but still out in the "open" when I took this photo. Had to increase my ISO to 8,000 in order to get a fast enough shutter speed (1/100) for a good, handheld shot; and even then the photo was underexposed. Huge thanks to Javier Zurita for putting me on this bird!
