Florida Family Trip 2020 Little Gasparilla Island, Tampa
Read MoreTwas pretty cool coming across this mother Muscovy Duck with her children a few days ago in Sarasota, Florida. Unlike the Muscovy ducks often seen at local parks, the ones pictured here are actually considered "wild". There are many established populations of this species in central and south Florida. Still though, in my opinion, these south Florida ducks are not truly wild, at least not as wild as they are in their native Central and South American habitats. I've only seen truly wild Muscovy Ducks twice in my lifetime. One flew down the Rio Grande River in south Texas / north Mexico, and the other blasted past our canoe along a tributary of the Napo River in NW Ecuador. The individuals I saw then didn't circle back in usual, duck-like fashion, but rather, bee-lined away from us.
