Coyote at the Walls of Jericho

This was a beautiful trip. I had taken my father in law to the Walls of Jericho for a serious hike. He is from Florida and I figured that a steep mountain hike would be a cool experience for him. After hiking down the trail from the parking lot in Alabama, we were finally reaching the end of the path where the spring washes down the huge rock formations coming down the mountain. Just before the end we noticed a coyote high up above us on the ridge to our left. It appeared that it had noticed us and that it was trying to evade us. I tried moving in on it from different angles so that I could get a good shot before it got away. I watched it run away and jump into the water where it then seemed to have left the area. I thought that maybe if I hike up the spring as far as I could that I might get lucky and see it. After scaling the 6 foot wall at the very end I saw the coyote sitting there looking at me! It could not get away and was basically trapped since its only other option was either to run past me (or fight me), or to climb the walls. I got about 30 feet from it and took a few hundred pictures with my Canon 7d using a Canon 400 5.6 lens. The coyote did not look too afraid of me and I definitely began to feel regret for the coyotes I have killed in the past. I will never kill another coyote.
