Red Fox near Star Lake
Taking photos of this beautiful animal was almost surreal. This was the second time I had seen a red fox in the wild and these two were very cooperative. I was visiting my grand-dad in Hoover, Alabama and decided to take my mountain bike from his house down the mountain to the the Hoover Country Club. As I was riding down the sidewalk through the golf course, I caught a glimpse of what appeared to be a wild skinny animal with a bushy tail. It took a few moments for me to realize that I had just seen a fox. A wild fox was about the last thing I expected to see on a public golf course. This fox was laying in the sun along with another fox. They both were within 10 feet of their den. My guess is that the foxes were relatively tame at this location due to the routine golfers on the golf course along with the surrounding suburbs. Also, they were very close to safety with their den nearby. The foxes let me get approximately 40 feet from them. I took these photos using a Canon 450d with the Canon 70-300 IS lens.
